Any good linux OS is ok, and there are many. My own personal recommendation for noobs is the Manjaro KDE version, it's based on the Arch Linux OS so it's solid, and it's super easy to install it on your machine. Good community support, too. The KDE/Plasma desktop is enough like windows so that you won't get lost. I like it because it's honest and unassuming. For example here is a quote from Manjaro's own website:
Is manjaro better than other distros?
Manjaro is not superior or inferior to any other Linux distribution, they all do the same. Manjaro has its own package manager, themes, tools and custom Kernels.
..and yet I have found it to be one of the very best ones I have tried.
Download the iso (select Plasma/full), burn the image to a USB flash 'thumb'drive (this might be the hardest part if you've never done it before), then reboot from the USB, and go. Easy peasy.
You even get the chance to give the OS a test drive on your own machine before you actually install it, so you know it's going to work OK on your device.
Everything usually works great, you might miss Windows if you are into certain aspects of gaming, but even that can be largely overcome these days. And to me it feels great to be out from under Microsoft's heavy thumb.
Software installs and system updates are simple yet under your own control, not automatic.
Edit note: like most distro's this one does use 'systemd,' which is a bit of evil. But imo it's still a step above proprietary OS. Personally I run Slackware on my own machines.
