my personal opinion is that anything that can be hacked and exploited is bad. remote temp control? remote unlock? cameras everywhere? if weaponized, all would do more harm than good on multiple levels. its not a matter of IF it can be hacked, but WHEN. low tech with brains and balls is my motto. we as a society have been conditioned to rely on technology too much. buy a gun. get a good dog. keep your kids off of the thermostat. read old popular science and mechanics articles to fill in the rest. and like someone else has said know your neighbors. develop trust.
