Nope. Making deals does not work.

You decide to stop and then you stop. Then tomorrow you do it again, and the day after, and so on. And if you slip up, well it happens. One day at a time is the only way to make it.

This is the correct answer.

The underlying mechanism that controls this are the properties of our brain that control habituation. Once the brain has been habituated to a chemical it has been permanently rewired to prefer that state of existence because our bodies are ALWAYS fighting to conserve energy and will ALWAYS resist new rewiring efforts.

If it took 10 years of drinking to habituate (rewire) your brain into alcohol consumption it is going to take AT LEAST twice as long to rewire the brain out of the habit permanently. And, that is IF you are even aware of what habituation means and how hard you have to work to rebuild the neural networks through and around the damaged areas.

When people say don't do drugs, they don't mean don't do drug. What they mean is that once you are on that path permanently rewiring your brain, eventually you get to a point where there is no undoing the damage and you are going to have to grow new neural wiring around and through the damage.

This is why any drinker will be making the decision to stop every day for the rest of their life. Because the re-wired part of their brain will want to get off the wagon every single day.

Just stop bro. Just throw it all out and refuse to do it again

Not gonna throw any out but I am trying to convince myself.

It sucks for a few weeks. But in a year you won't even remember them. And every day that you are successful in saying no makes the next day easier. Build pride in your will and control. Don't keep tearing yourself down.

I been thinkin about it a long time but it never happens. you know good intentions and all. I really got nothing else. No real reason besides knowing maybe I should. I smoke also and everyone I know who quit this shit died shortly after , for whatever reason. I got no real motivation. Maybe Im one of those fucks that this is whats keeping me alive.

Did you actually quit drinking and improve your life?

I went from a 750 bottle of Johnny Walker every 2 days to nothing with the aid of Kratom. It's a trade off but works well.

I trtied that shit and still have some somewhere, did nothing for me.

[–] [deleted] 2 pts

There's a lot of garbage kratom out there. I've been getting it online.

I did also, couple years ago, different kinds. My nephew liked it but I have a weird tolerance for things.

Check out maeng da strains. Especially the red and green ones. Also, if you prefer to shop locally, OPMS is a pretty popular brand that works for a lot of people. I use the green vein maeng da strains from them. It's pretty much the highest grade you're going to find without looking online. Can personally vouch for it. With that being said, online is your best bet for top quality kratom. Hate to say it, but try looking over on Reddit. I've tried more kratom strains that did nothing, than I have tried strains that actually worked. A lot of trash kratom being sold these days. Try to find some being sourced straight from Indonesia. Try starting at around 5 grams. My sweet spot is around 7 grams. I've stuck with that number for around 3 years now and works pretty well.

Drink a Texas Mickey, a case of beer, and a bunch of random shots all to yourself within the space of 2-3 hours. You'll get alcohol poisoning and maybe puke for a week or 2 after that. The smell of alchohol will make you feel like puking after that.

this pucky seems to be a thing. What are yall frat boys?

[–] 0 pt

Nope, I did this almost 30 years ago as a teenager. It got me off beer for life, I have no desire to drink at all, and if I ever do on some special occasion, I only have 1 or 2 drinks and have no problem cutting myself off after that.

I just watched a documentary on Bonn Scott, terrible, don't end up like him, or Ira Hayes.

You should watch "Alice Cooper Behind the Music," it's on youtube.

Get some help, you might not be able to do it alone.

Oh, and try Kratom again, have a hard core drinker friend who used it to quit drinking.

two of my heroes.

Lol, I saw Alice Cooper many times.

Kratom did indeed work for a friend of mine, to quit drinking.

Alcoholics do not "slip" into drinking again after a period of sobriety, they choose to drink again - the word "slip" waters down AA and it plants a seed in the alcoholic's head that if he drinks again, it'll be okay because, as to be expected, he slipped and every alcoholic does it so it's no big deal, even though there is an overwhelming majority of alcoholics who have stayed sober since the day they stopped drinking - A 'slip" is just another excuse to justify drinking again that's all.

If you're taking about addiction. There is only right now. In effective it's a small window one millimeter wide. Technically you get an infinite number of them but that one that you just missed kicked you're ass worse than the substance ever did. That door you didn't step through was anmazing life that you could not even begin to imagine. That next millimeter wide door? Its okay maybe nor what you could have had, but definitely better than the the next , and forcibly better than the comfortable well known path that you are aligned with.
