He'll certainly need surgery and it's probably not the only clot, and in any case he's to see a specialist. The problem is likely a clot, and probably many more lurking in the dark, there's nothing requiring to get even remotely into a covid debate at this stage, over this. Maybe easily wasn't the best of words but considering he's a boss he probably has the ability to afford the treatment. People/doctors are becoming aware of the damage done so any opportunity to make people become aware should be taken.
What if it's not related to vax, and not a clot at all?
Start with small talk to see if the boss is even aware of the "issue". I don't see why this has to be rocket science.
