From an AI perspective we are just learning machines.

And if you take that at a crack at the meaning of life it actually solves it.

The meaning of life is to be a learning machine. To keep learning and experiencing. How does this proof solve the meaning of life? Because you would have to keep learning and experiencing to discover the meaning of life if it weren’t this.

To do your best.

I've met a lot of people who weren't very bright or accomplished, but every day they made a conscious choice to get up and work hard at something.

All of those people are financially better off than me.

This is with hindsight, a younger me would have said 'reading and learning new things'.

If I wasn't such an arsehole I would have learned how to be nice to people and to listen better, I never realised how important interpersonal skills would be

I would say to learn how to calm down in hostile environments (which goes with breath control mentioned below).

After that, there are more steps, depending upon the situation you're in.
