Move out of the city. You may make less money, but living expenses will be less as well. You will probably lose your "city girl" girl friend. Don't worry, there are lots of single women out in the country, and for some strange reason, many of them think city boys are cool. Don't move into a rural area with the idea that you are better and smarter than country folk, because you aren't. Nobody out in the country wants to hear how you did things back in the city. If they cared about that, they would be living in the city. In fact, don't be afraid to ask how things are done in your new home. Another thing, if you act a little dumb, (don't over do it) you will probably make new friends more quickly. No one likes a smart ass city boy. A humble guy, willing to listen and learn, on the other hand... Buy some guns. Join a gun club with a gun range and learn how to use and maintain your guns. You will make some new friends in the process. OK, that's a good start. I think you can handle it from here...
Thanks dude. Yeah, the girlfriend and I have talked it over quite a bit and want to move to a smaller place and start a family.
Guess it's just a matter of getting to it and doing it.
The post above has good advice. Country life is different, and just because people lead simpler lives does not make them stupid.
I've always found the exact opposite. Country people tend to be problem solvers.
Sorry if I misjudged your girl friend. If she is willing to make the move with you that's great. Having a good woman beside you will make things easier, as long as she is really into it. If she's just going along to get along, just waiting for you to "come to your senses" and move back to the city, it is going to be a disaster. You need to really make sure she is onboard or you're in for a living hell. Been there, done that. Be sure she understands the part about people really not giving a shit about "how we did it back in the city." Saying things like that will get you ostracized quicker than just about anything. Good luck! A lot of city people think that opportunities to do things are greater in the city. They are dead wrong! There are just as many things to do out in the country, they are just different. Have an open mind.
I recommend Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, or the Dakotas. Not too hard to find a slice of paradise in the rural zones.
