Thanks dude. Yeah, the girlfriend and I have talked it over quite a bit and want to move to a smaller place and start a family.
Guess it's just a matter of getting to it and doing it.
The post above has good advice. Country life is different, and just because people lead simpler lives does not make them stupid.
I've always found the exact opposite. Country people tend to be problem solvers.
Well, part of it is that country life requires a degree of self sufficiency. You fence breaks, you need to fix it, and with out running to town every day; having materials on hand in other words.
Sorry if I misjudged your girl friend. If she is willing to make the move with you that's great. Having a good woman beside you will make things easier, as long as she is really into it. If she's just going along to get along, just waiting for you to "come to your senses" and move back to the city, it is going to be a disaster. You need to really make sure she is onboard or you're in for a living hell. Been there, done that. Be sure she understands the part about people really not giving a shit about "how we did it back in the city." Saying things like that will get you ostracized quicker than just about anything. Good luck! A lot of city people think that opportunities to do things are greater in the city. They are dead wrong! There are just as many things to do out in the country, they are just different. Have an open mind.
I recommend Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, or the Dakotas. Not too hard to find a slice of paradise in the rural zones.
