Someone just gave me 3lbs of good but expired unopened coffee beans. Google isn't telling me anything useful so I thought maybe one of you would know.

They are dry roasted beans in a sealed package. I'd definitely drink it at 8mos, and I'd at least try them at 2 years past! If they are kept in the freezer all that time, longer. They are just dry beans. Dry beans (that you eat) can last many years if you store them properly. Coffee beans are roasted, theoretically they could last longer.

That expiration date just means they want you to discard it by that date and go buy more of their product, like your neighbor did. Great neighbor to have! Lol!

You can often exceed the use by date on dry products as long as they stay sealed and out of the heat.

Factory ground/packaged coffee is similar, some vacuum pack or inert gas fill the package which significantly improves shelf life.
