I need a new prayer, the Lord's Prayer I'm having a tough time with now. What prayers do you all pray to God with?

I promise you He wants you to speak to Him like you would your own father, or your best friend. The pre scripted ritual bullshit is the stuff Jesus fought the pharasees on. Go out into the place you feel most connected to Him and have a real conversation. Peace be with you brother.

Interesting about the prescripted stuff. Prescripted does sound a little dry and just kind of like going through the motions. Like mostly for just show. But no real connection to God.

[–] 1 pt

You know who's prescribed as fuck?

The Catholic church.

Need I say any much more?

[–] 0 pt

Too much fucking ritualistic shit and the fuckwit in the top job is the Antichrist.

Can confirm. Ex Catholic here.

It can serve it's purpose, I would never tell someone to never pray the lord's prayer or say a hail Mary. Just know He craves your personal friendship.

[–] 6 pts

prayer can be easy, just make it personal, have a conversation with God

I do this sometimes, like sitting down with my dad as a kid on the couch and just talk to god that way like a child. That is how I pray.

Try the prayer of St.Francis of Assisi. I prayed that alot when I was going through a very difficult time. It helped me , hope it does the same for you.

Wherever you go there you are. Take god w/ you. Like a polly pocket.

I applaud the answers you have been given. I don't usually comment. However I felt compelled to do so. My Aunt (also My Godmother) was one who could hear and feel things like thoughts and emotions of those who have crossed over. She told me that I should always pray "The Lord's Prayer" prior to prayer. She said that Satan could be standing in to deceive. Praying "The Lord's Prayer", Satan will flee and GOD will hear you. If you pray the Rosary GOD's Angels will hear you. You should not be asking or praying to the Angels for help. Your Guardian Angel already know what is going on, but will guide you to a place where GOD wants you to be. Bless the path you are about to walk.

I think my guardian angel is overworked severely since this fuckup doesn't always do what everyone else would do, sometimes my brain purposely rebels against common sense and politeness so my angel is one busy person. It doesn't help I have no clue what I really want or need so it's likely my angel wants to slap my upside my head several times a day in some cases.

The Rosary works for me in tough times, it is rhythmic and meditative. It has seen me through tough times. I hope your challenges pass soon.

Why not talk with him?

ask him what you need.

the Lords prayer is a template.

Our father who art in heaven - (acknowledge him) Hallowed be thy name - (acknowledge his holyness)

etc

use it as a template. use your own words.

ask questions and he will answer.

if it is his will to do so.

When you think about this prayer what are you wanting it’s purpose to be? What do you want it for?

[–] 1 pt (edited )

It's meditative for me to pray. I want to give thanks for being alive, for being able to love God. I do this already with created prayer. I guess I could freeform pray but I also like to have Christian prayers to recite as well.

First there is this. One of the most crucial parts of the bible

5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

11 Give us this day our daily bread.

12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

16 Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

17 But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;

18 That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.

19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:

20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.

23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!

24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?

28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:

29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?

31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

But the best way is in private and be completely repentant and honest. Confess your sins to God and ask for mercy and forgiveness. God is listening, believe me he is. The main thing is this, ask God to take control of your life or situation. Ive learned to not ask God to do what I want but rather what is best. Ask the Lord to take your worry from you, he will if you truly ask and truly trust and believe. Worry just vanishes. You have to trust God. Ask God to enter your heart. Never forget to thank him for his son Jesus.

Was a hardcore atheist for decades. Once you find God and you have to be truly willing to accept him and looking for him and he will show. All he needs is an opening, give it to him.

Glory to the Lord thy God

Thank you for your two responses. Finally, a biblical account on the power and form of prayer. Way too much feeling and experiential modes of prayer given here, when we are to get our truth and doctrine from the the word of God alone.

It's especially interesting to see Catholics who believe their doctrine is Christian and when they make repetitious prayers to Mary (false god, who is at best, asleep and unconscious) via the rosary (engraven image / idol), they don't make the connection of the admonitions given in scripture.

"Hey, so I know you know... I'd really appreciate it if... We'll, you know... I get it and all, and It's gonna work out, but if you'd show me a sign I'd really appreciate it."

That's how mine usually goes.
