Many are elderly widows handing in the hubby's original 1911 he used in ww2. And other guns they have no idea of the value .Sometimes old black lady who found tyrones gun and decided to get rid of it.
My mom right there, handed a bunch of guns to the police, most of them were WW2 service pistols and stuff. The police scared her in giving them in by claiming the guns were "damaged". Those guns are 1000$+ a piece (original Colts, SW revolvers, etc) and will never be made again, and have priceless historic value, but now they're melted down or stolen by who the hell knows
That's shitty of them. My buddy did some work for his friends widow, she offered all her husband's guns as payment. He informed her that that was like 5k worth. Husband lied when he told her how much he spent on them. There is lots of that out there.
Apparently some of the guns had busted triggers and stuff (not even sure how one would diagnose a busted firing pin without either shooting the gun or taking it down), so my guess they lied their asses off on the damage to scare her into giving them away
The cops have them . Most of them know what they are looking at
