I recently realized that all I listen to is stuff that's on Christian radio. Not that there's a problem with that per se, but I used to listen to all kinds of stuff. These days, I just don't much bother with music because everything popular is almost always about glorifying being a horrible person.

Anyone have suggestions for music that has positive/inspirational lyrics that isn't specifically Christian?

Billy Joe Shaver - I’ve been to Georgia on a fast train Real country tune

Rodney Crowell - let’s make trouble Old “new” country, uncannily yearning in nature

Lowell George - honest man Classic tune I think? More southern rock

Swamp Dogg (original d-o-double G) - choking to death (on the ties that bind). I describe this song as the kinda tune The Rolling Stones wish they play Also his cover of Aint that a shame is awesome

Tom waits - step right up Great sardonic alt-jazz tune

Muse - the Drones album is great, or really any of their stuff

Look into power metal. Lotta high energy fast songs without the angst of most metal.

Helloween and Gamma Ray are 2 good bands to start with.

If you're not aversive to Japanese music, I like The Pillows. Genuine light-hearted alt-rock. I first heard them as a young teen, and they have a great young energy about them. Here's some good examples:
