Had 2 Great Danes for 30 years (3 pairs)...awesome beasts . They each had their own sofa in the family /living room. They were trained that their sofas were theirs and they didn't come up on the "humans" furniture.
If you don't have the space for multiple sofas then get the leather and deal with cuts/gashes and learn that it's just things. get a used one if you're worried about costs. If she starts bitching about the dogs "ruining" the furniture teach her how to sit on the floor.
