I live in the south so none of that winter blend shit you yankees go thru. Both my vehicles I swear are getting worse. I cant really keep totally accurate track cause I got bigger tires but know I could for just my use. But wtf does it matter I still got to buy the shit.

Hmm I never thought about it before but having bigger tires will get you fewer miles on the odometer.

Yes, but that has nothing to do with fuel use.I mean I know its less mpg but I dont think Im getting as much mpg as I use to. I think thats on purpose. They are fuckin with our gas.

Perhaps your gas station is going above 10% ethanol? That would reduce the mpg.

Exactly. I'm seeing worse mileage of around 3mpg. Which is right in line for what I'd expect with the reported 5%-10% increase of ethanol.

Not sure about mileage but I used to only be able to pump a few cents at a time before the handle would stop. But in the last month, maybe 2, it doesn't do that anymore. Im able to pump at full speed without it shutting off. I haven't fixed anything so idk, strange.

That's air in the tank having trouble getting out and the pump sensing it is full.

I keep meticulous vehicle records, down to and including if I added extra weight, drove differently than normal (more city driving, typical with car shows) or had to deal with excessive wind/rain/weather. My fuel economy (across 4 vehicles) is within the norm as tracked since the beginning of ownership (17 years for the longest owned).

BTW, no reason not to track. Having good records, even if they aren't 100% accurate in regards to miles per gallon, is a good way to pick up on when there's an issue. Or, in the case of my older vehicles with valves that needs adjustment, points and carbs... when a tuneup is needed.

Anyhow, drawn here by the intellectual knowledge of gas powered engines.

So, of course I will ask, since I gotta problem, of course;

Older, not classic, 5.4l (Ford Econoline Shuttle Bus) with codes P0453, P0171, P0174, P0141. (I know the codes relate to O2 sensor, lean fuel/air, evap crap, vacuum leaks, etc...). Just sick of online info. SCATTERED.

After cat change ( stolen and replaced with later model Chevy 2500 H.D.)

I just bought a new truck. I got 16 or 17 mpg on a long trip using 89 octane gas the first few weeks I owned it.

Yesterday I realized my average was like 13 or 14. I think maybe gas quality is dropping

Everyone is getting poorer gas mileage than a few decades ago, and it keeps getting worse. Engines are more efficient, but cars keep getting heavier and heavier due to all the automatic crap on them such as automatic windows, automatic trunk latches, and so forth. Safety legislation also increases weight, because it requires more steel for protection. Pollution controls increase weight. Four-wheel drive, which many people want, reduces gas mileage significantly. The bigger your vehicle, the poorer your mileage, and Americans like big cars and big trucks that match their big fat asses. All of which means fewer miles per gallon.

I've been monitoring mine for the past few years (fill tank, record gallons added and trip meter, reset trip meter) and haven't seen any worsening.

Change your air filter, and oil. I think the low end gas has been making my truck run rough. Switch to Shell too. You may have a point, they may be adding stuff. Could we measure this with a cheap diagnostic tool?

He ran the inspection check and it had a section for fuel. I think this may be my next investment for the truck.

Your assuming everything is OBD2.
