I can see how someone might feel there is correlation between the two.

I feel the correlation is more related to selfishness/pride/ego.

All sociopathic behavior is rooted in a world view where your needs always supersede all others. The world can handle smaller groups of people with this perspective. But once a critical mass reaches this level of “selfishness/pride/ego” things start to unravel rather quickly as everyone is stealing from everyone else with the intention of improving their own lot.

The solution is likely living in an opposite way. Focusing on creating a beautiful world, not for ourselves, but for others. And hoping that all others do the same, resulting in an improvement in our lives also.

We can either serve ourselves exclusively. Or we can serve ourselves via serving others.

Learning this lesson might be a painful process for some of us.
