Calling on the experienced and recent parents here. Wife and I are expecting our first baby soon. What should I watch out for at the hospital delivery? I have seen info on delayed clamping, antibiotic eye goop and deferred vaccinations. Any insights?

Your job is to be their parent, not their friend. Friendship comes after they are raised and out of the house.

The wife is in charge of child rearing till around age 7 then the husband must take full responsibility with child rearing.

I've raised 6 kids. Three to adult age

Same thing my dad used to say. I plan to follow this.

Decline all shots at the hospital, as all of them can be administered at your discretion later, once the initial system shock has passed (say, a few weeks - but by that time you'll be sleep-deprived!).

Don't get a diaper genie. It's just a glorified trash can, but it's worse because you don't empty it (or think about it) nearly as often as a typical trash can in a common area of the house. All diapers get nasty over time. Best to just throw all diapers in a regularly changed bin, and put the immediately stinky ones in a quart ziplock or cheap 4 gallon bag with the end tied off.

And absolutely no circumcision.

Personal opinion -- diaper genies are most effective for older toddlers and young kids (especially boys) who are potty training and wearing pull-ups. It is easier for them to "self service" once they are old enough to take their own diapers off. Asking them to put into a ziplock and tied-off bag is a non-starter.

But yes, agree you can't forget about checking and emptying the DG regularly regardless of your kid's age. It gives you more wiggle room than a standard bin though, as its design is much better at blocking odors.

But as always, YMMV.

Hmm, that makes sense. Sadly we got rid of the Diaper Genie before potty training. DOH!

When I first saw/heard of it, I thought it had a much better/neater design. Something like a foodsaver, that uses a heating element to cut and seal off one bag before starting the next. But no... just a sealed door with a food pedal.

Going to go with cloth diapers and a sprayer that connects to the toilet (and associated bits and bobs to support it, like a splash guard for using the sprayer with).

My wifes family practiced whistle training, and helped do it with our kids. Immediately, from birth, whistle when the kid is peeing. Try to catch them in the act every single time and whistle. Its exhausting. But, seriously, after 2 weeks, the kids never piss or shit themselves again. You start a regime of taking them to the potty or toilet or whatever and holding them ready, and whistle...and they just go. No nappies. Potty trained from birth. Its not perfect, and its hard, but the effort lasts for the baby years, and is well worth it.

The child needs a vitamin shot when it's born.

Get that one.

Or don't. Let your kids go blind

[–] [deleted] 4 pts

What vitamin? Why?

What are the mechanisms for growing blind?

Most of these shots assume you're crossing the border or doing drugs/sex with multiple people

[–] 0 pt

Vitamin k.

If you are born with low vitamin k your blood vessels can literally bleed. Leading to brain damage and blindness.

If you give the new born vitamin k when it already has enough vitamin k nothing happens.

So therefore it is smart to give every new born vitamin k

[–] 0 pt

Nope. See my comment above. The vitamin K is unnecessary, and can have side effects. Ruined the feeling in my wife's leg.

By the way, I used to think it was harmless but the vit K shot may be responsible for food allergies later in life. Don't remember the specifics but it was in "The Truth About Vaccines" show

In Australia they ran a trial over the last couple of years and found the Whooping Cough (vaccine) was a major cause of allergies. Find out if your area uses the "whole egg" or "partial egg" vaccine. The partial one is the new one (used in Australia since about 1991), that was introduced because it didnt give the kids as high temperatures. Theyve now found it is a major cause of allergies, and are reverting this year back to the old vaccine...*well, they say a new version of the old vaccine. Who the fuck knows.

We didn't do any of their recommended non sense. No drops, shots, or clamps. My kids are healthy the way God intended.

[–] 4 pts

The drops are so stupid. Doctors claim they can’t see right after birth anyway so the drops don’t matter. Why did mine make eye contact with me right away if they couldn’t see lol. So many first moments of people’s lives are ruined by eye goop. The medical industry is so jewish.

Homeschool

Home birth. A lot easier to keep the jow shots away.

This is a big one. Thanks for the reminder

Golden hour, first hour tell everyone to F O and let the baby be with the mother!

[–] 7 pts

Congratulations!! It’s amazing, man.

Keep the child in the room. I think it’s gotten better, but they used to take the newborns off to the nursery. Fuck that. If they insist on taking your baby out for anything, go with them.

[–] 6 pts

No circumcision. "Doctors" will come at you left and right asking to cut the penis. They'll even wait until you're out of the room to try and pressure the mom into it.

On a more practical side, the first few diapers changes are a total mess. And it'll be your job to change those because your wife will be in a bed. Don't look like a pansy and make the hospital staff do it.

Forget about getting an uninterrupted night of sleep for at least for a few years. Figure out with your wife how to manage that so neither of you are too tired to function.

A common issue with newborns is acid reflux. It can happen from breast milk or formula, and it sucks for the baby and everyone around. They won't be able to sleep laying down for long and tend to just scream a lot until you rock them to sleep in a more upright position. Just be on the lookout for it and don't go for weeks or months before telling someone that can give you a prescription for an acid reducer.

No circumcision - Agree 100%

Doctors and nurses are waking up to this. They almost seem relieved when you tell them no. At least in my experience.

Can you use a midwife?

[–] 3 pts (edited )

This. Get a doula and midwife and have the child at home.

Be aware of what an AMA form is. Against medical advice form. If your wife is being coerced into unnecessary treatment from the hospital, like with a c section for example, knowing what an AMA form is will help her leave. Don’t sign consent forms just to get away from crazy doctors, or because they say you have no choice. If they say you have no choice they’re lying, and it’s a form of consent under duress. Demand the AMA form. Declining the IV will also prevent her from getting stuck there against her will. I was forced to have a c section, don’t let that happen to her..

Have two kiddoes now:

I would homebirth if you can - it is expensive because Midwives typically aren't covered insurance. Ours was $3k each, but they help with pretty much anything you need for quite a while after. We are still friends with ours and the Doulas that were there. We live in a state that "allows" all this (Texas) and we have not had any issues thus far. We delayed and then stopped vxx - started MMR, DTaP, and the other one that is required but then decided that we didn't want to keep going with them. So, both kids are pretty much 85% unvxx'ed, if that is a thing. There's Vitamin K that they give that should be researched - not to mention that most Hospitals these days have requirements and you may or may not be able to be consented on them.

Vitamin K shot is not necessary. It's a shekle maker trust me. They claim the child might bleed? WTF?
