There was a BBC short series How TV Destroyed Your Life.

Might be worth checking out, but one episode he did explained the glorification and idol of money. Some of the older TV game shows had prizes that consisted of coffee maker, slow cooker, fishing kit. Nothing really over the top. Now it's all about the money. It used to be people having fun with the host (some hosts being pedos), to get their quick ticket to fame. Now it is cut-throat all in for money.
