I am rarely unhappy. I don't let globohomo take the joys I do have away from me.
Im not unhappy either, but at the same time not happy.
Jay Leno has a great line about this. He doesn't shoot for happy, he shoots for content. I think that is the correctly balanced homeostasis. Happy is something closer to euphoria or drug induced delusion and probably serves as a specific evolutionary signal to hunters entering a new territory that is full of potential.
Fuck yall are all going Carlos Castaneda on me, I meant this as a simple question.
Puts a dark context to "you will own nothing, and you will be happy"
Makes sense if you consider happiness to be the direct opposite of sadness. It's not good to be sad all the time, so it can't be good to be happy all the time. Probably burns out your dopamine receptors or something.
zen then, huh? who was it that said "contentment is the total lack of wanting?" along the lines of "neither a borrower nor a lender be."
There is much of value in the practice of Zen non-attachment or the Natha vairagya.
“Detachment is not that you should own nothing. But that nothing should own you.”
“Release and detach from every person, every circumstance, every condition, and every situation that no longer serves a divine purpose in your life. All things have a season, and all seasons must come to an end. Choose a new season, filled with purposeful thoughts and activities.”
I could probably make you a philosophical pessimistic in 15 minutes
I'm already a pessimist.
