The rating system is used as a way to censor what gets into theaters. The pg etc shit is just a show. It’s all ng/r vs nc-17.
They used the "rating" system as a way to market inappropriate trash to kids too young to see it, that's for damn sure.
Think of the voice that announces the rating. Every 12 year old wants to watch a PG-13 rating, and that's not cool enough, so they want to see R rated also. Extremely subversive. They turned degenerate trash and violence into forbidden fruit for kids. The internet is 1000x worse than movies were though.

The push for.a pg-13 rating was prompted by Indiana Jones and the Lost Ark after parents took their children to see it, who were then traumatized by watching peoples faces melt off and explode.

I watched Dennis the Menace recently. There were a few things that I was surprised by.
Margaret tricking Joey into kissing her dolls butt and calling him a baby rump kisser.

At least 2 bath sequences with Dennis (babysitter bf with him reading about mail trains or phonetically male trains, then another bath with Mrs Wilson asking if he needed help where he said "Only if she wanted to see what the stork saw")
I also watched Shrek again recently, which obviously has a shit ton more on innuendo.
People don't realize the damage of how even shit like that sexualizes kids at a young age. Just weird and gross.

Yes and Yes. Steven Spielberg marketed Gremlins as a cute family movie only to shit on Christmas and show little kids gore porn.
All James bond movies were PG to include Octopussy in '84 right up until they introduced PG-13 ratings in 85 then they simply became PG-13 rated from that point onwards. If you can't handle the adult themes of a man being a self hating womanizing alcoholic you probably aren't going to handle being an adult either.
