Sounds like both your son and you don't actually understand microwaves at all. His "education" on microwave ovens seems more like regular old fear, uncertainty and doubt that he probably got from another Dunning-Kruger affected "educated" person.
Back in the day I'd fire up my oven to 400 to heat food and was always surprised how fast it worked.
Think carefully about your conventional oven. It outputs radiation so powerful it can heat the air directly. It can heat you directly too. It is emitting long wave infrared light (photons) just like a microwave oven does (at a much longer wavelength that is) but with much more dramatic heating effects. That heat denatures proteins and drives chemical reactions that greatly alter the chemistry of your food. That radiation alters and destroys DNA, cell walls, cytoplasm and mitochondria. It can even drive off most other elements and leave you with just carbon. It also makes exotic hydrocarbons that are carcinogenic to humans. Why aren't you afraid of what it does to you and your food? Are you not educated on conventional ovens?
