The non coastal SE is pretty disaster free I"ve noticed. As long as you're on high ground. It's too wet for regular wildfires, tectonically stable, tornadoes happen just about as often as anywhere else (much less than, say, Oklahoma). Hurricanes only near the coast. Flooding happens but mostly the water stays in the river channels which are all over. No blizzards, no avalanches. Most commonly you die because a tree fell on you.
