If dogs had the intelligences of whites then they would probably invent new letters and words to encompass the meaning of their language, which would distinguish between happy barks, warning barks and excited woofs.
Dogs are not intelligent though, they have no need for language, they communicate much the same way as babies, with emotive yelps.
You're on to something with them creating new words. It'd be like that comic strip where Hobbes talks about all the different words tigers have for smells.
Otherwise yeah, the anthropomorphization doesn't work because animals don't comprehend language the way we do.
