yes. I worry that it will become an echo chamber. Like Reddit. Reddit is an echo chamber. Liberals stoke each other off and shit on anyone who disagrees. They all have generally the same ideas and just close themselves off to people with differing thoughts.
I worry that I lose track of folks whose unique sectors used to hit my /new but get lost due to more popular/mainstream topics
Kinda what happened on Voat. When entire Reddit communities showed up, it became all about a bunch of crap I never cared about when I used to be able to scan v/all/new and see pretty much everything and pick and choose what I wanted to read. Like Poal now.
Tip: if you remove the “all” in the URL, new/hot/top will only show the subs you’re subbed to. So it’s a good way to keep track on those you want to follow, until we implement a follow/befriend user feature.
I guess you'd just have to actively look for niche subs in the future, but those will expand a lot leaving some naturally behind.
Yes, I do worry about that, but would still like to see it grow. Personally I like the smaller feel and the way you can get to know individual personalities over time. I enjoyed that on Voat, too, but left for the exact reason you bring up here. It changed dramatically. I'd hate to see that happen here, but ya never know, all things change with time. If it does, I'll find the next new small site that feels comfortable and move along.
If it does, I'll start the next small site.
LOL. Small sites are always the bets, but they do need to grow, too.
Well if poal grows and becomes successful in that way, I've often considered it and I've got some ideas on how we could preserve the friendships and community we have.
Kind of like an internet neighborhood? That does sound nice.
As long as the admins stay true, they'll keep out the faggots
