Not a boomer, but need boomer help. I have a new iphone and now these cocksuckers made my itunes library subscription based so i can have all of their faggot features that I never wanted. I want to uninstall their dog shit music app. What is the best free alternative? I have 35K of my own songs—I’m not paying these detestable commies money every month to listen to my own shit. Tips/Advice?

67 Country Squire? What you described sounds a LOT more like a 77 Country Squire.

Your first mistake was buying an Apple product. Congrats, you'll have a stylish paper weight within 18 months.

[–] 1 pt

It is a very pretty paper weight I’ll give them that. I think op is confused though cause I have an iPhone I have a shit ton of music non of it bought from Apple and I listen to it just fine. Although I recently discovered I can’t torrent on my phone so maybe I go with something else next time. Would be nice to torrent without jail breaking.

[–] 3 pts

I use yt_downloader to download YT vids and convert them to Mp3. I then play them on anything that plays Mp3.

[–] 3 pts

The apps in the app store all seem subscription based or cloud based. I just want a simple, WinAmp style player with no streaming that allows me to play my existing MP3s

Bro just plug in your phone to a laptop. I assume you have a computer. Then drop and drag your music from wherever into your music section on your iPhone. That’s what I do and it works fine. Been doing it forever. Only ever had iPhone. Just did it recently as a week or so ago. iTunes might need to be updated. Everytime I go to do it I have to update iTunes. My Music is just regular mp3s I got from torrenting or ripping from cds at the library. Got em on my laptop and a hard drive

[–] [deleted] 3 pts (edited )

Can you literally not transfer mp3s to a new phone through a USB cable and play them with an mp3 player app anymore?

I've never had an iphone, so forgive my ignorance if none of the following works:

5 iTunes Alternatives to Transfer Data Between Your iOS Devices (iPhone/iPad) and Computer Without iTunes PhoneView for Mac iPhone to PC Transfer Tool iMazing (formerly known as DiskAid) SharePod iFunbox Wondershare TunesGo Retro

..then to play the files, maybe try this:

VOX – MP3 & FLAC Music Player It supports all standard formats, including FLAC, APE, WAV, ALAC, MP3, WMA, OGG, etc.

iPhone won't let you use anything other than iTunes through Apple Car Play. It's super dangerous as fuck, too, because iTunes won't let you pick songs from a playlist using Car Play. You have to look away from driving, pick up the phone, unlock it, open iTunes, browse for the song on the phone's screen, and then select it on the phone.

[–] 3 pts

Carplay is gay. Aux port and cupphone yeaaahhh

[–] [deleted] 2 pts

I wouldn't know.. last time I used the phone to play music in the car I did it through the audio jack aux port. Mostly just burn CDs. CDs almost never piss me off. Car supports mp3 CDs, which is nice.

[–] 3 pts

It's nicer to have your entire music collection browsable and playable. My car can do it from a USB stick, but the morons only put one USB port in the car, so if you want to use Android Auto/Car Play for navigation you can't listen to your thumb drive music.

[–] 2 pts

I still have a CD binder in my car. Every month or three I'll burn another mix and simply label it with the month and year.
CD's do get scratched up eventually and skip in places, but it's also safer to just hit Skip on the dash rather than attempt anything on a phone while driving.

A big reason I never continued with iPhones a decade ago and switched to Android. Out of the box Android lets you mount the SD card on the PC, copy whatever the hell you want to it, and use any music player to play them (including all of the built-in ones that the OS comes with).

[–] 1 pt

Yeah, android is far easier for shit like this

[–] 2 pts

Going to try this later. Thanks.

Not a boomer either, but late stage millennial now sitting at the crest of the hill. I'm beginning to understand the frustration with new technology like my elders. Used to be into every new gadget or tech that came out. But now a lot of the times nowadays, I'm feeling the fuck it- not learning that stupid ass newfangled shit.

[–] 3 pts

Exactly they were like “you were into computers”. I was in to new leading edge tech shit because it was world changing. All this “tech” isn’t new, it’s boring and I ain’t relearning it all because some ego trippers wanted to reinvent the wheel for the 500th time

[–] 1 pt

Android does that just fine. iPhone is shit. I had one 10 years ago and when we had a major power outage (lasted a week) I plugged in my crank-handle cell phone charger and my iPhone told me it wasn't supported and so wouldn't charge. Had Android ever since.

[–] 0 pt

Phone is slave to pc. Itunes pushes your pc collection to your phone and erases what was there before. Its one way.

Hum a pleasant tune

The Horst Wessel Song is a fave

[–] 2 pts

Yeah get something other than an iPhone, you retard.

[–] 1 pt

Came here to say this. Alternatively, it should be easy to get something else to play MP3s with. You don't have to use your phone.

OP came in to ask for boomer advice, but I had a walkman (casette player). And rollerblades. I thought I was very cool.

[–] 0 pt

I had a portable CD-R MP3 player in my K car in the 90s.

[–] 0 pt

K car?

Wait you have to pay to listen to your own music? I don’t get it. I have an iPhone but all my music comes from a hard drive. Stuff Iv torrented or ripped. I just put it on my phone through iTunes and it works fine

[–] 1 pt

I have a new iphone

Found the problem.

[–] [deleted] 1 pt (edited )

I guess I don't understand. Apple has an iTunes subscription music service where you pay $10 a month and can play everything, similar to Amazon or Spotify. But if you purchase an album its still available for you to play in your personal library, you don't have to subscribe to the music service. The subscription service lets you access all their music for one monthly fee, but you don't get to keep it if you unsub. The music you have purchased is still yours to use, regardless of if you used the subscription service.

They encourage you to store it in the cloud and my playlists won’t transfer from itunes

[–] [deleted] 1 pt (edited )

In the iTunes Store app at the bottom there should be a 'more...' option. If you click that and then click 'Purchased' and then click 'Music' all your purchased music should be there. You can then download it to your phone to play. (But yes the ads on it push their new sub music service continually and annoyingly)

Also note the 'Music' app should allow you to play the downloaded music from the ITunes Store, and it should also still have supported Playlists. But you could use Vox or other player to play it too I guess.

dig through your phone settings and see what you can turn off and disable. Find an iphone debugging program.

Telegram offer unlimited free cloud hosting. You can make a channel and post all your music there and keep it to yourself or share it with others. Do consider getting rid of anything apple related as they're demonic. They even censor channels on the Telegram version downloaded from their app store that Telegram itself doesn't censor. Google play does the same trick but Telegram has an uncensored version on their site for Android.

On Telegram you can make as many channels as you want so you can use them as playlists and then make a pinned post linking to all the channels. Telegram is amazing.

[–] 0 pt

This sounds great. Is there a player built into it?

[–] 0 pt (edited )

yeah but it plays sequentially in the order they were posted. that's why I said you could create different channels if you want to categorize them and make a bunch of playlists.

Edit: actually looks like you can make playlists too so if you upload a bunch of them together in one post, the post can serve as a playlist
