Start local. Many hometown newspapers will run an article on new business.

Holy tits! Newspapers? Not even the elders read newspapers anymore. That's... yesterday's news.

I'm wondering if this is something that he could sell on an Etsy alternative?

do a table at gunshows. people still do want to touch what it is they may buy. craft fairs and weekend markets. i hope that you have a trusted sidekick/helpmeet who could do some legwork.

Get burn certifications that meet FAA approval and target aircraft owners.

There are only a few out there and it's expensive.

I'm just curious, I was in military aviation but never did anything with civilian side, what do they make in leather for aviation?

Seats and side panels.

6 seater was $2100 in leather and foam. Side panels were $2500. Materials alone. Labor was 1.5 times material cost.

Damn. That all makes sense. Our seats weren't like that, mostly all foam and fabric, cockpit stuff was mostly metal and plastic. Thanks for your response!

Seats maybe?

Cockpit coaming, apparently.

EBay is dead.

I sell hundreds of items on ebay every year. eBay is not dead. You're selling the wrong products.

eBay blows and now they require your bank account to sell. They hold your funds and they decide when you get paid. Even the smallest complaint will lose you money. Like pointed out FB is your best best. FB users are easy targets... They use FB regularly, nuff said...

What kind of leather company? Raw production, basic accessories, custom tooling and creation, tactical gear, tack for livestock, etc?

What and how will you be focusing your business will tell a lot about how and where you should focus your marketing and sales

Right now Im doing belts, wallets, pouches for "Leatherman tools". I've made a self defense EDC roll of quarters holder thing. Repairs on motorcycle saddle bags. Getting into dog collars. Trying to keep it simple so I don't take on to much too early.

Guitar straps are easy. Make some wider ones for bass, too.

Pet market is like 13b a year. People will pay a fortune for customized pet shit

Thats a good plan. Don't grow beyond your means. Will you be making set stock items or will this be a custom order type thing?

[–] 1 pt

Wallets made in advance, belts would be dyed and oiled but would need to be cut to size and punched per order. Thought I could do set sock and charge extra for custom stamps or work a customer might ask to be done.

[–] 2 pts

Idk how much they charge but you could try using a brave browser ad.

Quite a lot actually. The minimum volume is huge.

I guess that explains why most of the ads seem to be cryptocurrency markets.

And major retailers every now and again.

This is not internet advice but I knew an old leather worker with a small shop. He had a connection at a high end purse company and got their scraps that were very high quality leather for pretty damn cheap or free. He made me a wallet with red leather and black fake ostrich leather... he explained if he made it for 50 bucks I'd never buy a wallet again. 7 years later it's going strong and looking good just need some stitches and new plastic for the ID area.

So I'd suggest looking for something like that if possible

I would try Gab ads.

Advertise as being USA made, if you are. When I buy leather products I usually include USA made in my search, and I also pretty much use ebay exclusively. I buy alot of Amish stuff from PA... Belts, wallets etc. My wife purchased me a genuine leather travel bag for my toiletries but it was handmade in India. Still a nice bag though. But I prefer USA made.

You could advertise on Poal.
