You're not going to convince people with news sources like The Gateway Pundit because of how often GWP outright lies and misrepresents the facts.
My suggestion: if you find something on GWP that you think is good, verify it from another source (they usually link), and read the content. Verify it is correct and use the original source if it is accurate. Can't argue with, say, FOIA released papers from the DoJ, for example. Point them straight to the page # and paragraph, for example.
RealClearPolitics has a "fact check the fact checker" page and it used to be amazing. It gave ratings to the major news publications based on how often those news orgs got their fact checks factually right (or whether or not they tried to pass of their opinion article as fact). Magically, this part of their site is now broken:
