When I was 18 my girlfriend and her friends wanted to take the test, they did and did not qualify. They were really confident they would pass. I had an IQ test when I was younger that would qualify so I sent it to the mensa group and paid the 40 bucks to join. Then one day I pulled out the card to show them the look on their face was great! I never renewed because it didn't seem to provide any value.
