You're absolutely correct. The town I grew up in had migrant workers arrive to work the fields in the summer. The kids in town could also work these jobs for some extra money, detassling corn, hoeing beet fields, etc. I remember one average kid showing up at school in the fall totally jacked after throwing hay bales over the summer. Anyway, as more and more migrants quit migrating and staying year round and as more and more arrived, adult migrants filled the ranks of those summertime employment opportunities once available to the kids. Those jobs began to be viewed by kids as strictly migrant work and as a result somewhat demeaning for them to work if they were even able to get hired. Those jobs were no longer the source of a kid's first paycheck and the term 'jobs Americans won't do' was conceived around that time. Over the years this town has gone from <1% non-whites to >25% and it is now nothing like it used to be, and not for the better.
