Think about the way the school system has worked, in the US since at least the 1970s.
Kids were taught, not to critically think, but to repeat "facts" told to them. Thinking outside the box, was discouraged because it wasnt what was written in the book to be taught. It wasnt a "fact" as given by the teachers manual.
Fast forward that, 50 years, you have all of gen X and later, being taught to parrot the gov propaganda, rather than question it.
For many of these people to go against what they always believed was true, or to stop speaking the facts as told to them. Is impossible.
That is just one piece of the puzzle... but its a significant piece.
