I was a driver trainer for 15 of my 16 years over the road. There was a bit of loading and double that for unloading. But the companies were reimbursing drivers to hire unloaders. For easy unloads, we would just make up fake receipts for the unloaders and pocket the extra.
Trainers got paid for every mile driven. I'd get a load in NJ going to LA and offer an extra $75 out of pocket to my student if we could get there in one hard push. We'd get meals to go, skip showers and push non-stop. Get there in 3 days. I'd get the truck unloaded, take an 8 hour brake and buy a big breakfast for the student. Good old days. When the student was Mexican, I always found a real Mexican restaurant and we'd eat Huevos Rancheros. I was a good guy trainer and made friends with all of my students.
