That's exactly how Christianity works. Don't lose sight of the fact that Catholicism is a branch of Christianity.
I can only assume you are trying to make this argument from inside of the religion.
Your entire thesis is invalidated.
You haven't even come close.
Catholicism is a claimed branch of christianity. Many consider the world's largest cult as they currently break tenants required to be Christian. They also teach contrary to the bible. Not very Christian.
But ya, you keep on pushing that to make your point...
Now address the original point. Personal responsibility.
You can't. I'll wait and crush each and every argument you raise. You will never understand what I'm saying because to do so would invalidate your belief system. Arguing against religion is easy. Making you understand logic is the hard part.
Personal responsibility.
I won't even call it Christianity, because that is such a loaded term. But here is what the New Testament teaches: - there is none righteous (Romans chapter 3) - we were dead in our sins (Ephesians 2) - by one sacrifice of his body on the cross, Jesus paid for the sin of all (Hebrews 10) - you cannot please God apart from faith (Hebrews 11) - you cannot earn your salvation by "doing" something, i.e. "works" (Romans 4) - the old man has been put to death in/with Christ, and now we life by faith in him and he through us (Romans 6, Galatians 2)
That said, I don't know exactly what you're getting at with the whole personal responsibility thing. Sure, you can white-knuckle this or that in this life, but you will always be guilty of whatever sins you have committed against the infinitely holy Almighty. You cannot do anything to improve your situation with God, as a hostile, rebellious enemy of God. Jesus became sin so that we could be reconciled to God and be the righteousness of God in him.
