They're not even that expensive, I think. They sound like a lot of fun, but I have heard stories about how if it sucks, then you're stuck in a shitty situation for a week.

Remember when corona started and there were cruise ships that wouldn't let the people off? That shit was ridiculous. Can you imagine? You're on a ship and 2 people on it got the chink flu so nobody can leave for an undisclosed amount of time. Fuck that.

But anyways, Let's say there is no corona. What company is the best, with the best experience to be had, and the best ships? Would it be perfectly fine to get one of the cheaper cabins and still have a lot of fun, or would it be way more worth the money to get a fancier, more expensive cabin?

They are great for kids. When I was a kid, we went on a few with Carnival. They had awesome programs for kids where you made friends and you were basically hanging out with them until way later than you ever would normally, and you'd have things like 24/7 ice cream and pizza. We caused some trouble and did some stupid shit, like borrowing furniture dollies on extreme wind and sailing on the top of the deck with a towel on the dollie. Some things as kids was great.

But growing up it's mostly a chance to eat a lot of fun and go out on fun excursions like ATVing. They are cool if you're with friends and family as it's basically kind of like an all inclusive resort (minus things like alcohol) that goes to different places, but you're usually not in one place very long.

I went on one when Cuba was open and got to experience the joys of communism with my family who haven't really been to a communist or ex-communist country before, they learned a lot.

It really depends what kind of traveling you like. If you're looking for a vacation where you want to be a glutton, meet some interesting people, do some kind of cheesy/fun social activities, and do some light traveling to places (like staying there for 8 hours), it's not bad. I'd take it over an all inclusive for a week where you're stuck at the same place. And I do like the ocean or gulf late at night, being hundreds of miles away from any source of light pollution and enjoying the sky. But for every really interesting person on a cruise ship there's probably 10 or 20 obese weirdos. And the traveling is really shallow, almost always to resort islands where you do some probably not safe excursion ran by third worlders in a country where you have no legal protections. But if driving ATVs to a remote tequila factory, drinking, then driving back to the ship to eat as much as you want sounds like a good time you will probably enjoy a cruise (if you bring friends or family).

Cuba was cool and it lets you experience why communism sucks ass first hand (you'll almost 100% find people who will open up to you and tell you the truth about the place). Aruba, Grand Cayman, Florida Keys, a few others like that were my favorite. Avoid Dominican Republic, Jamaica, etc.

Bear in mind if you're getting the cheapest rooms you're going to be in the bottom of the boat in a very no frills place with no sunlight, probably in the front or back where it's less stable and rocks more, and the back can be louder.
