Imo, people are too caught up in a specific hairstyle. Social standards were once a dress and at least shoulder length hair. Anything other than this was considered manly in nature. Then, those hairstyles were absolutely considered scandalous, manly and masculine, regardless if a man would actually wear it. At some point the overtone window moved.
This is also true for the promotion of pants over dresses. Many today will claim pants can be feminine. But that's only after they swallowed the degenerate movement of the overtone window. As such, it's important we use the standards of the day.
