I thank God I live where I live. The county has mandated that all businesses require customers/employees to wear masks inside, and display a sign saying so at the entrance... but ~75% of customers I see don't wear masks, and probably ~20% of employees don't wear masks. One store near me has a sign explicitly stating that customers don't have to wear masks, directly violating the county mandate. As is probably no surprise to anyone reading this, my area of the state only has spikes in COVID cases when there is a spike in testing, and our death count is well below the national average. Business is doing well, and even bars/restaurants are hiring these days. I've only had a couple of times in big national chain stores where I've been asked to wear a mask, at which point I just say, "no, thank you," and leave. Been doing more of my shopping at small, local places lately, which is nice.
