Cool, I just checked the wiki. They're a mastiff-bulldog mix. Bred by white settlers in the 1800s to protect the farms. The mastiff part would be territorial and the pitbull would be fierce defense.

Rhodesian ridgeback? Just guessing based off of the name, seems to be a rational assumption.

I looked at youtube for videos of domesticated hyenas. The few individual accounts were mostly baby hyenas, and annoying af. This guy says no way @ 6:33.
