I was just thinking about knots used for fishing, then knots in general. There are many different knots, for all sorts of purposes. All of them are cool and interesting in their own way. If you've never learned the various knots and their practical uses, consider picking up a length of rope. There are books, pdfs, and videos to get you started (though there probably isn't a youtube video on nooses).

It's quite easy, actually.

Just get a piece of rope, and bend it three times, and twist the smaller end of the rope over the loop that it formed. After that, push that end of the rope up the series of twists you just made until it reaches the top/first twist. Pull it tight and adjust until it stays in place.

Now go hang a nigger.

Uh, you need to make it with 13 loops to be a proper hangman's noose and the rope needs to be greased to work well.

Nah, I just use a palomar knot for everything, even my shoelaces

But let me ask you something: If you need to kill a person, why bother with all of the trouble to properly hang him or her. Why not just kill them? Knives do a spectacular job of ending a life. Bats aren’t so bad either.

It makes cleanup easier and safer by limiting exposure to pathogens found in people's bodily fluids.

There may be some instances where hanging someone may be a good deterrent, when it's done where others can see the results. And perhaps a slow hanging where a person's toes can barely touch the ground may be a proper death for a traitor. But of course, if death is the only objective, and optics or torture is not necessary, then pretty much any heavy object will suffice.

Hanging can also be made to look like a suicide. My dear cousin Sara was murdered this way by her husband.

You can also work in a handle inside of the knot, and it makes a nice smooth braiding that captures the loose end automatically. My hatchet has such handle work and it adds a lot to the grip without the bulk of knotwork throughout the handle.
