Yeah you could say that. Unlike some I'm not crazy about the newest hottest thing. I like tried and true. Turn key, just do maintenance and forget about it. Shit that just works.
Personally I would love to build a deuce and a half into a motor home. 6x6, runs on anything. Primarily diesel but gasoline mixed with oil, as well as used oil or cooking oil works. Not fuel efficient or fast but it will go places.

As far as efficient old school diesel off-roaders I'm not very well versed. Putting an old-school mechanical injection diesel engine in a wrangler would be pretty dope though.
Well, we have very similar dreams, that shit is awesome. A multi-fuel engine would be the tits. I need something sort of off the shelf though, too old/busy to learn new tricks now. Sucks because classic cars are rare and precious where I live now. They were practically giving them away in the US in comparison.
Cash For Clunkers in the US was a damnable abomination. There is still enough older vehicles out there for those that or looking. But it really took it's toll. Fuck. Makes me so mad. The world is full of stupid corrupt ideas that are propped up as beneficial. "Think of the children"
Yeah bro, think I had already fled the US by that point, but you used to be able to afford a classic customized hot-shot car for a few weeks worth of work. Makes me mad too. Now that stuff is considered "rare" when just a few years ago people had them rusting out on the front lawn, everywhere.
We were told to bring as many classic cars as we could in our spare, tax free shipping containers when we moved, I sure wish we had listened to that. I'd love one of those 6x6s right about now, it would sell for mega money over here, but the army surplus in the 2000s was selling em for a few grand.
