I’ve often wondered if a real intense trip confuses the mind so much that it has to reset some of its neural pathways, which effectively deprograms a lifetime of social conditioning/brainwashing. I had a wild cubensis trip over 20 years ago and I have been forever changed by that experience. Coincidentally I also stopped smoking the next day, but I also gave up weed. I couldn’t wait to be sober.

It's like hitting a reset button.

Yeah, the trip was not fun at all, I regretted it and wanted to sober up so bad. Not a nightmare trip though, but definetly a bad one. Even anti-drug people should see the argument for legalizing Magic Mushrooms to some degree, it has huge promise in smoking cessation, and increasing life satisfaction, as well as treating depression, and all of this is research backed.

Better than keeping alcohol and cigs around and banning everything else, that's for sure.

Shrooms just strips off ego and pretense. For OP cigarettes was an idol stealing control of his life and it told him so.

Not everybody knows how to dig through the mind so certain drugs can be theraputic when it helps strip away the outer layers.
