figured that out, the new and by far WORST thing imaginable = SITTING ON THE STAIRS for HOURS, bored out of your mind, nothing to read, hear, do, see. HOURS of my life spent on staircases

You get used to the beatings etc, so nothing there stands out.

The one thing that I still remember vividly though was getting my mouth washed out with a bar of soap. I still won't cuss in front of my mother to this day.

Lye soap. My parents used lye soap.

Sounds nasty but I really can't imagine it tasting worse than commercial soap. Ughh on both counts!
