Both load the article completely in expando properly for me. Going to the site directly does show that I need to sign up to continue reading as shown in your image. The archive link is appreciated and preferred and it also displays the page contents more ideally for me. I don't go to any link shared here directly anyway and always run it through archive first and then view the archive. So direct links actually discourage me from reading the article as I need to spend time archiving it first and I won't bother doing that and will skip the article entirely if it's barely of interest.
