I couldn't help myself. I said, "No it isn't. It's darkest in the middle of the night, equidistant between sunset and sunrise." That got quite a few laughs.

Don't count your chickens before they hatch.

Well, if I don't, how will I know how many don't hatch? It just sounds subversive, if you don't count the eggs, you won't know you are being stolen from.

You can't count them before they hatch, they're not chickens at that point.

Besides which if you get 75% hatching from a clutch of eggs you got a REALLY good hatch rate. So having 10 eggs and counting it as 10 chickens is stupid AF, and then if you're trying for layers you will only realistically have 2 because of the 50% that hatch 50% are males.

We never had many chickens, always got them from Quality Farm & Fleet.
