I got laid off. I make $4400 a month. WTF? That's more than I made working an engineering job.
I have a couple of prospects on the table. They pay less but I need to get back to doing something.
Or you could use this opportunity to be an independent grown up and stop relying on other people to give you scraps.
You mean run my own business? Yeah, that went away too during this mess.
If you've found yourself in this place, there's no way you aren't competent enough to make your own money at no one's discretion. If you were going to lose a business, it happening during something like this wouldn't surprise me.
But of course I don't just mean having your own business.
It is very fucked up, the way it was instituted.
I didn't take a job offer as an essential worker because I'm making more off of unemployment.
I'd rather be making an honest living, but I have to do what makes financial sense for myself.
I agree. Until the end of July, there's not a job in my field in the city I live in that will pay what I make right now. I mean, I've helped pay into this system for near 25 years, so I guess it was there for when I needed it, and I should take it.
If something good comes along, and it's a decent pay, I'm taking it. But I'm not taking that $10/hr degree and experience required contract because it makes no sense to do so.
Wait what how you get that much unemployment? I hope you accidentally added an extra digit!
That's until the end of July, state + the CARES act payments. After that it's about $2000 a month until the end of the year, assuming I can't find any employment.
In the UK Unemployment pays less than disability which pays less than working.
