He’s not really that malicious...yet. He’s obviously from voat by the picture hosts he uses and his way of commenting on posts his other alts have made. Don’t be surprised if you go back next week to look at his alts to see how he went back and upvoted those comments. (Voat mindset because voat has restrictions tell you reach a certain cc) It takes about a week for a submission to go unnoticed, people stop scrolling or caring about posts usually at the 24 hour mark. Voat IMO was wise to set up voter limitations on old posts. I would make it so comments can’t be upvoted or downvotes after 5-7 days. There’s no need for internet points really and after 24 hours the post has reached max point collection.

My other advice, stop commenting on known troll alt accounts. It should of been really obvious to the handful of loyal users here that this guy was an alt creator with a few bolts loose yet everyone except me called him out on his bullshit and I’m not that active here. Where are the mods in the subs he was posting in? I don’t think we need to delete his posts but he was just posting random pics with a wack job title and no sources. And people upvoted that shit.

You can’t assume positive intent from anyone coming here. You just can’t. New accounts shouldn’t be given the benefit of the doubt. Fake internet points shouldn’t be thrown at them just because we are low on content. There is no voat type hazing here so new users get a free pass. However awlful voat was to new users it did teach new users the culture and that no one gets a free pass. You want a free pass; go to Reddit.

Believe me though, they won’t stop.

You have been extremely diligent on SBBH behaviors. This behavior is that exact same thing but executed differently. I’d also wouldn’t be at all surprised if the user we are talking about already has a main alt he uses to blend in here, probably a top 10 user.

I appreciate the feedback and suggestions I'll for sure think on it. I don't think we want this place to have quite the same immune response voat had at the end of the day but probably some kind of immune response would be good. However and immune response at the end of the day limits speech so there is that to be considered. I guess I don't see the clear cut line as well as you do. I would agree the person is using alts as I saw them reply to themselves forgetting to switch accounts. We do have posts locked after a certain point. We adjust it periodically depending on how active the site is.

I guess I don't see the clear cut line as well as you do.

I’m a business person. You can’t let emotions get in the way. We all want people to be good and follow rules. We all want free speech but don’t let lines get blurred. You’re the boss here. You own this site, it’s your name on the bills.

When the user slipped up and forgot to switch up users did you call him out?

If it was me, I would do my best not to let emotions get in my way of running my site to the best of its ability.

Here’s the thing with a couple businesses I have started, I did become to emotionally invested to see clear. That’s when you need someone on your team to check you. Emotion is good and helps passion projects get started and gain steam but emotions cloud our otherwise steady mindset. Every good project needs a hard ass. I have yet to run a successful business without a shark. There’s just to many predators in the sea and it’s good to have an apex hunter on your squad.

You are doing a good here. Your work and the work of others who help you should be commended. Don’t stop, new ways of trolling will always arise. Stay vigilant and don’t let even the harmless of trolls get away with bullshit.

You are correct it is my name on the bills.

I will keep that in mind, while in my experience you are correct you do need a hard ass on your team to win, there just isn't any other way around it.

I did not call the user out, I thought it wouldn't be appropriate at the time. This wasn't for an emotional reason, points here are largely useless they don't really effect much. So I guess why should I stop them from point farming? What practical purpose would it serve? However if I come down on someone who isn't doing anything other than trying to get a colored name I think I have effectively limited speech. Perhaps my thought process is flawed here, I would welcome someone pointing out how. I am however keeping a very close eye on the accounts in question here.

I've been wondering what to do when the time comes I do need to expand the team, I have yet to even bring it up with the other members. I've been watching the userbase as that is I think the logical place to get the next member.

Thank you for taking the time to respond, you've got me thinking if nothing else which is always helpful. Also thanks for the kind words on the work we are doing here. I am and always will do my best to keep the site running to the best that I can. Except on the odd day off I take.
