I've been asked to go to India and present a paper that's nearly three decades old.

What makes it interesting is that they know what paper they want me to present and that paper has my .edu address in it. They contacted me at a different address.

The conference is legitimate, even though it's fairly new. It was published in 1991. Any research newer than that is proprietary and I no longer own the rights to it.

So, they obviously know who I am and took the time to find my public email address, ignoring either of the two .edu addresses.

It doesn't appear to be a phishing attempt - I'm not asked to log in to anything. They do mention providing a hotel room and food and drinks. (They've obviously never seen how much I can drink at a conference.) I'd have to pay for my own flights, from the looks of it.

I tried searching for the individual who sent the request - but there's like 100,000 of them. I can fit the conference into my schedule and I've never been to India.

I'm pretty sure they just want my organs!

Seriously, who the hell does all that just to ask someone to present a paper that's nearly thirty decades old?

Don't be silly. I'm sure they won't harvest your sweet delicious organs.

In other news, please come out to the first annual Poal meet up. It's in the alley behind the dry cleaners.

Hmm... Is that why you sent me a PM asking my blood type?!?
