It's an incorrect assumption and you are right about that. Slavery is a lot like communism, you give up your freedom but have your shelter, medical care, food and water all provided. Slavery is the solution to stupidity, you can make slaves of a stupid population and still make use from them, but to make a stupid person free without educating first is cruelty. This is why real education is essential to a free society.
