I have no problem with them handing the site over to archeologists ... but they should at least get the real value of their find from the government. That doesn't happen, like you said, better to hide it.

It's one of those weird laws that encourage dishonesty. Chinese injury law is very similar as a single accident is guaranteed to fuck a person for life. People won't even try to assist a dying toddler for fear of financial ruin. Add that to an already abundant lack of empathy and you get all those fucked up vids of kids getting run over by cars and everyone walking by like nothing happened.
