Interesting idea. I like it because it will act like a wall to make crossing the border harder. Any passenger ferries bringing illegals across could be sunk easily enough. It's a win-win. The cost doesn't matter, whatever it takes. It would give us better trade sovereignty. Right now, the Panama canal is controlled by the Chinese. Security isn't a problem since under water mines could easily be placed in strategic locations and activated when needed. The locks could also prevent hostile ships from entering or leaving.
As if that random guy knows what it takes to build a canal two miles wide across the US southern border. It's not just the money math involved here. He has no idea of the impact of such a canal across a continent and merging two oceans would be. It took a tremendous effort to build the Panama Canal at the smallest distance between two oceans so how the fuck could he think this endeavor would be a mere half trillion dollars? And to top it off, now our southern border could be invaded by full blown warships. Yeah good fucking idea there retard.
Yeah, don't think his math checks out. Also, would need thousands of lock gates because of the elevation.
now our southern border could be invaded by full blown warships.
We have 12,383 miles of oceanfront coastline as it is. What's another 2000 miles or so?
Yeah, the guy's proposal (2 miles) is ridiculous. It could be wide enough to support bidirectional supertankers and cargo ships, maybe 4 lanes. It would dwarf the Panama canal. I like the idea but think the cost would be ridiculous, wraught with technical challenges.
