I have some old Android phones where Android isn't supported anymore...
Yeah, but they are still usable.
crApple is forcing their sheep to update iOS to use apps that were working fine otherwise, and some of their older phones can't update. Thus ending up with apps that refuse to work, stuck on "update your app" pop-ups.
Yeah, got that a lot on Android as well. "This application is no longer supported" and "You need to update to version xxxx to continue using this service."
The only thing left running on my Android device was an application I wrote, some games, and some back-end utilities that modified the rooted system. Everything else was dead. Couldn't even browse the internet anymore because of the certificate expiration and no new cert package.
RIP my poor MotoG. Your battery was dead but you fought until the end, the end being one year after you were made and forgotten about by your manufacturer.
Mobile phones could be used for decades if it wasn't for these companies who are only about making more profit to please their shareholders. The problem is they push for software updates because the hardware quality has reached a level where it's hard for phones to break or become faulty on their own. Most damages happen when they are dropped (hard floor). Even water isn't an issue anymore.
