You are right. But on top of that, the threat of violence itself is very helpful. Just look at Islam and Christianity. Christianity is significantly more widespread than Islam in the west. However Normies rarely ever criticize Islam. And they are too cowardly to mock it. Christianity on the other hand is fair game for both Critique and Mockery. People are appeasing any ideology they perceive as threatening. And if they have power fantasies they'll find it more alluring to join such an ideology.
