Lived through it. Family of six huddled in a hallway in near total darkness except for the flashlight held by my Father. I'll never forget the howling wind moaning. The house shook as part of the roof tore off. Water began to pour under the front door and my parents stuffed towels under it and prayed. After a while it stopped then started up again as the eye passed. Eventually I fell asleep in the hallway curled up with my siblings. Next day the water had receded away from the door. Father put on his swim trunks, and holding his dry clothes and boots on his head waded the 1/2 block in thigh deep water to catch his ride to work. The water drained away quickly over the next day, and we walked across the street to see the alligator our neighbor caught in his yard. I never saw that coon*** so happy..."gator steaks" he grinned as the alligator eyed him from the bed of the truck. Later we played slip and slide in the water pooled on the grass.
