What has been reported so far:

  • American Eagle Flight 5342, carrying 60 passengers and four crew, collided with a US Army Black Hawk Helicopter with three soldiers near Reagan National Airport.
  • At least 12 bodies have been recovered per NBC Washington report. American Eagle Flight 5342 departed from Wichita, Kansas, and was inbound to Reagan.
  • NBC Washington: 30 bodies recovered
  • a temporary morgue has been set up at the DC Fire Helipad at South Capitol Street SW in DC.
  • Reagan National Airport will remain closed for flights until 1100 ET.

It appears both the helicopter pilot and the controller didn't negotiate properly. The helicopter was flying dark (apparently a normal thing). The pilot was confused what aircraft the tower was talking about.

There is such a tight approach line for Raegan, I find it hard to believe this is on the airline pilot. It always amazes me when I fly in there just how restricted the airspace is and how tough the approach is; why on earth the helicopter would’ve been in that lane is shocking…unless dei or terrorist, which would be my first two guesses.

Not on the AA pilot , the chopper literally ran into the plane. They aren't naming the hilo pilot but $5 bucks says it ain't Robert Carrington IV.

I'm curious who was on the plane. When things don't add up then I automatically jump into wondering who was killed and why.

I'm curious who the helicopter pilot & trainer were. Possible DEI connection.

Otherwise I haven't heard of anyone of great significance on the plane other than the skating group.
